What Are Dental Bridges?

Missing teeth can significantly impact your ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. At Aurora Dental Care, we offer dental bridges as a reliable and effective solution to restore the function and appearance of your smile. Whether you're missing a single tooth or multiple teeth, our team is dedicated to providing personalized care to help you regain your oral health.

Dental bridges are a restorative dental option used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge consists of artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are anchored in place by crowns on the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. This creates a “bridge” that fills the gap left by missing teeth, restoring both function and aesthetics.

Types of Dental Bridges

At Aurora Dental Care, we offer several types of dental bridges to suit your specific needs:

  • Traditional Dental Bridges: The most common type, traditional bridges involve creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic in between.
  • Cantilever Bridges: Used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth, cantilever bridges are ideal for specific situations where traditional bridges may not be suitable.
  • Maryland Bonded Bridges: Also known as resin-bonded bridges, these are often used for replacing front teeth. They involve a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Bridges: For those with multiple missing teeth, implant-supported bridges offer a more secure and long-lasting solution, using dental implants as the anchor instead of natural teeth.

The Dental Bridge Procedure:

The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves two appointments. During the first visit, our dentist will prepare the abutment teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns. Impressions of your teeth are then taken to create a custom bridge that fits perfectly with your smile. While your permanent bridge is being crafted, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect your teeth and gums.

At your second appointment, the temporary bridge is removed, and the new custom bridge is carefully adjusted and secured in place. Our team will ensure the fit is perfect, and your bite is comfortable, so you can leave our office with a restored smile.

Caring for Your Dental Bridge

Maintaining your dental bridge is essential for its longevity and your overall oral health. Regular brushing and flossing, particularly around the bridge, will help prevent decay and gum disease. We also recommend visiting Aurora Dental Care for regular check-ups and professional cleanings to keep your bridge in optimal condition.
